Joassart Bernard

Born in Jemappes (Belgium) in 1954, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1972. Aside from the Jesuit course of philosophy and theology, he studied history in Louvain . He joined the Société des Bollandistes in 1990 and was appointed a Bollandist in 1996. In 1997, he conquered the doctorate in philosophy and letters (PhD) in Louvain-la-Neuve, with a dissertation about Hippolyte Delehaye and the modernist crisis. Aside from his research activity, he is archivist of the Société des Bollandistes and teaches Church History at the Institut d’Études Théologiques in Brussels .
As a Bollandist, he is specialized in modern and contemporary hagiography, as well as in the history of the Bollandists.
